Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 return globally after a 19-day US export control shutdown

Category: AI Governance

What it is

The US Department of Commerce lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and
Mythos 5 on June 30, ending a shutdown triggered after researchers found a way
to bypass Fable 5’s cybersecurity safeguards. Fable 5 returned globally on July 1
across the Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork, with
Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans getting 50% of weekly usage limits
through July 7. Anthropic trained a new safety classifier that blocks the reported
bypass technique in over 99% of cases. Mythos 5 stays limited to vetted US
organizations under Project Glasswing.

Why it Matters for Enterprises

A federal directive pulled a frontier model offline with no warning, even for
defensive-security users. Enterprises standardizing on any frontier AI vendor
should build contingency plans for regulatory-driven access disruptions.
