What it is
OpenAI rolled out GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini globally, replacing ChatGPT’s
turn-based Advanced Voice Mode with a full-duplex model that listens and
speaks at the same time. It can pause, interrupt, stay quiet, or delegate complex
reasoning and web search to GPT-5.5 in the background before returning to the
conversation. Paid users get GPT-Live-1; free users get the mini version by default.
OpenAI plans to bring GPT-Live to the API and positions voice as a future primary
interface for agentic work.
Why it Matters for Enterprises
Voice interfaces are maturing into a serious agentic AI surface, not just a
convenience feature. Enterprises building customer-facing or internal voice tools
should evaluate full-duplex models for latency and task-delegation gains.
