Goldman Sachs: AI is already denting entry-level hiring across developed economies

Category: AI & Economy • Labor Market

What it is

Goldman Sachs analyzed employment growth across 800+ occupations and found AI-exposed industries – call centers, software publishing, consulting, advertising – have seen hiring slow sharply since 2022, most pronounced in the US, Germany, and Australia. Entry-level workers are absorbing the brunt: a 10% rise in AI exposure dragged entry-level employment growth down by up to 0.6 points in Australia, versus just 0.1 points economy-wide. AI adoption across developed markets now sits at 15–20%.

Why it Matters for Enterprises

The jobs impact isn't hypothetical anymore - it's showing up in hard labor data, concentrated in specific roles and career stages. Workforce and hiring plans should account for this shift now.
