What it is
DeepSeek is introducing peak-hour pricing that raises V4-Pro and V4-Flash API rates by up to 1,100%, effective Aug 16–17. V4-Flash output rises from $0.28 to $1.32 per million tokens at peak (half that off-peak); V4-Pro rises from $0.87 to $3.96 at peak. The company frames it as “allocating resources more reasonably” amid capacity strain, and it lands the same week V4-Pro exits preview and DeepSeek’s second funding round values it near $74 billion ahead of a possible IPO. Even after the hike, DeepSeek remains cheaper than most Western rivals.
Why it Matters for Enterprises
The "DeepSeek death zone" that pressured rival pricing is narrowing, not disappearing. Enterprises anchoring cost models to DeepSeek's old rates should re-run TCO comparisons and consider off-peak scheduling to manage the increase.
