Microsoft has deployed more than 25 AI agents across 70+ Azure regions and 400 data centers that act, not just report – building on a 2018 consolidation of 30+ systems into a single Azure data lake. Agents like the Demand Planning Agent and CargoPilot Agent run simulations and autonomous decisions within governance bands that operations teams themselves defined; inventory carrying costs on covered product families fell 18%, with most of the rest running autonomously. Microsoft is targeting 100+ deployed agents by the end of 2026.
